The first 'F' types were
called '12/70 Magnas' and were only retrospectively known as
'F1s' after
the introduction of the 'F3s' that
shared the mechanical improvements
of the 'F2' (e.g. the 12" brakes and the extra cooling
pipe from the radiator) but not the
2-seater body.
Some 'F1s' may
have been modified by the factory to 'F3' specification later, but 'F1s'
originally had
8" brakes and either the Tourer and Salonette bodies as fitted to
the 'D' type Midgets or were supplied in chassis
form for special bodies to be fitted.
(Quite a few
'F1s' have anachronistically been rebuilt as 'F2'
replicas.)
